THE 8 MARCH FEAST AND THE SOVIET LEGACY
Flowers, sweets and gift baskets, billboards and city-lights with stylized eights. Agiotage in gift shops as well as men who rush all over the mall in search of presents a day before the 8th of March are very remarkable example of how marketers have successfully integrated one more purely socialist holiday into the capitalist system.
Undoubtedly, the "8 March feast" has clearly culturally-hybrid nature, but let's remember about its origin. Often, criticizing the "international women day" people characterize it as a soviet legacy, which is alien to our culture. However, it has much deeper roots.
The day of 8th March is known in history after a feminist demonstration in Chicago in 1857, which, according to some historical archives was attended by prostitutes, other version claims that the rally was initiated by textile workers. A similar event was held a year later in New York. Since then most of feminist actions were timed to this date. The date of 8th March was declared an International Women's Day by the decision of the US Socialist Party and the Socialist International, headed by Clara Zetkin and celebrated as a proletarian feminist feast.
In fact, the main thing that the day of a woman's liberation from "kitchen slavery" has brought into society is erasing of understanding of a woman's primary vocation as well as her great role in this society: a matrimonial life, a motherhood and a household, which someone mistakenly tries to portray as a low-grade or a primitive work, which not requires intellectual efforts. However, if a woman wants to succeed in all the aforementioned deeds, it's not enough to use her intellect, but to be a wise woman first of all!
Fighting for gaining of artificial and illusory equality feminists have won a right for every woman to destroy her natural beauty and femininity in a heavy work. in return she received a present in form of one day in the early spring, when the society has to remember that she is a woman!
The absurdity of the situation is that at first some women were tried to show their equality (in their understanding of this concept) with men in every way, and then they complain about the lack of manly and gallant men.
Of course , we can note the presentence of postmodernist features in modern form of the cultural-marxist feast. Especially, when someone calls the 8th of March as a feast of "femininity and beauty," and it's against the background of the fact that this "feast" was founded by persons, who made everything possible to destroy the concepts of femininity and woman's beauty, which essence is a mystery, a reflection of the beauty of nature. At the same time, one of consequences of feminists' activities is the sexual revolution, which resulted to spreading of prostitution and pornography in thier legal and illegal forms.
Every woman has her sacred God-given mission, and its implementation is worthy of a greater respect! The Mother's Day is the kind of traditional Ukrainian feast, throughout which we express our respect to a woman in accordance with our native traditions. Besides, in recent years some Ukrainian cities in western regions of our land decided to refuse celebration of Soviet fests, including the 8th March, arguing that such kind of feasts are not conducive to spiritual enrichment of Ukrainian nation.
