BATTLE OF REMARSKA - FIRST BATTLE OF RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR

Undoubtedly, we are now witnessing another landmark part of Ukraine's history, which has already brought new memorable dates to our calendar. Among them the Volunteer's Day, which is celebrated by all the involved on March 14 already for several years. On this day four years ago, the first activists of the Maidan self-defense went to the training camp and eventually formed the first volunteer battalions.

On that very day, in Kharkiv members local of patriotic groups and future volunteers took on their first battle with Russian forces and managed to stop the Russian creeping hybrid occupation. The Russian-Ukrainian war began in March 2014. Even then, it took place not only in the Crimea, but also in the eastern region of the country. Despite the loss of Crimea, Ukrainian patriots had managed to defend the Kharkiv Oblast.

The reason for this was that in Kharkiv - in contrast to the Crimea, the Donetsk and Luhansk - the patriots acted as a well-organized group. It was here that the first voluntary formation arose - the Chorniy Corpus (the Black Corps) guerilla  detachment under the command of Andriy Biletsky.

It was the Ukrainian volunteers-patriots, not the state security services, who first stood up for the country in the time of need. After all, in the first months of the war, the state apparatus was completely paralyzed, and law-enforcement bodies had generally ceased to exist. Only volunteers prevented the destruction of Ukraine in the spring of 2014 - the first and key days of the war.

The Battle of Remarska (or the Defence of Remarska) - that took place on the night to March 15 in Kharkiv - was actually the first armed clash of the Russian-Ukrainian war. By that time the Russian flag had been seen on the building of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration for two weeks; it was mounted there by collaborators and "guests" from Russia, who at that time were busy preparing the so-called "referendum" for the creation of the "Kharkiv People's Republic" on the same way as in the Crimea,Donetsk and Luhansk.

The guys, who later became known as "little black men," created a headquarters of the resistance forces not far from the seized administrative building. They strengthened the windows and doors, prepared the aviable hunting weapons, Molotov's cocktails and were ready for defense.

At that night, the pro-Russian forces arranged a storm the building on the street Rymarska 18, where the headquarters of the Black Corps guerilla unit was located. A total of 32 Ukrainian volunteers led by Andriy Biletsky resisted an attack of several hundred armed separatist, led by the terrorists sith call-sings "Motorola" (the very same field commander of a Donbass terrorist unit) and "Topaz."
The pro-Russian militant "Topaz" - a Moscow proxy, guided the Kharkiv's AntiMaidan at that rime, was armed with automatic weapons.
Notorious Russian militant Arsen Pavlov, also known as "Motorola", on the "Kharkiv's operation" he guided the Russian "landing party" and received instructions directly from the FSB. To the city Pavlow and his group arrived from Rostov and Belgorod (Russian Federation) to make a mob scene for a pro-Russian "referendum" inscenuation and occupation of the city, folowing the Crimean scenario.

The Ukrainian forces managed to repel a long-lasting attack - the militants retreated, having experienced their first real damage in this war: at least 2 dead and 5 wounded separatists, including Russian citizens (!).

Having seen the losses in their ranks, the Russia proxies were disoriented and stopped the offensive. Ukrainian volunteers, in paralel, have suffered no loss in this battle, having adequately kept the defense of the building.

The Battle of Remarska was crucial in the Russian-Ukrainian confrontation in the Kharkiv Region. Ukrainian forces had managed to defend the city. In many respects, thanks to this victory, the war was localized in the Donbass, and the Slobozhanshchyna region has reminded under Ukraine's control; it has avoided mareuders, military confrontation, bombardments, destruction, chaos and horrors of war.

For the Azov Movement, the date of March 14, 2014 is especially important because this day became a battle baptism for the unit and gave impetus to the formation of a volunteer battalion, that later grew to a regiment. Ukraine defended Kharkiv on that night.
